INTERESTED IN BECOMING A TERRE HAUTE WOMEN'S CLUB MEMBER?
The Terre Haute Women's Club (THWC) invites you to join our mission of providing athletic shoes and socks to underprivileged students in Vigo County. Since 1971, our dedicated team of around 45 volunteers has been changing lives one step at a time.
Here's what you can expect when you join THWC:
*Our Duties:*
1. School Selection: We work closely with school health assistants who identify students in grades K-12 recommended by teachers, coaches, and school staff as the neediest and most deserving youngsters in Vigo County.
2. Confidential Advocacy: Health assistants share the names, grades, and genders of these students with THWC to maintain confidentiality and dignity.
3. Shoe Bus Delivery: Once a week throughout the school year, our club members discreetly drive the unmarked "Shoe Bus" to 27 Vigo County schools, ensuring that no child feels stigmatized or burdened.
4. Fitting Sessions: Students step onto the bus and receive a brand-new pair of athletic shoes along with two pairs of socks.
*Our Impact:*
Annually, we distribute an average of 1,000 pairs of shoes, thanks to our partnerships with Academy Sports and generous sock donations from our members and local organizations.
*Meetings and Commitment:*
- Monthly Meetings: We gather on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 9 am, starting with a social, followed by the meeting at 9:30 am. All meetings are held at the ONI Risk Insurance building on the second floor in downtown Terre Haute.
- Shoe Bus Runs: To ensure our impact continues, volunteers are required to participate in 4 shoe bus runs throughout the school year. As a new member, your commitment begins with 2 runs.
*Fundraising for the Cause:*
We host an annual fundraiser, "Cruise for Shoes," where all proceeds go toward purchasing shoes for the next year, allowing us to sustain our mission. As a member, you are required to work this fundraiser that happens in the middle of April.
Ready to step up? Please contact us below and we'll gladly welcome you to the Terre Haute Women's Club family. We accept members at the beginning of the school year August-October.
